: :information on the first model cub cadet Several ideas on the two blade cub. I recently saw a two blade deck modified to fit an newer (70s) 106. When I suggested to a friend he pick it up as a collectible, he said he already had three. Never the less, it is the first model. I understand the reason they cut so well is the blade speed. It was after this model that the govt regulations controlled blade speed and that changed cub to the three blade models??? I did have one of the early series (no numbers) and it did cut well. I used it as a toy not to really mow with it. However the two blade "timing belt" approach caused problems because, if the blades got out of "time" they would touch and then lock up. The spindles contained a toothed gear for the belt... no doubt you know this by know... and it was pot metal or at lease a soft alloy... if you have one clean these gears and protect both the gearing ang the belts... they are hard to find.
