In Tennessee, if a resident buys something out of state, said resident is required to file a form in Tennessee and pay Tennessee Sales Tax, even if they paid some amount of sales tax in the state where they bought the merchandise.
Of course, no one that I know has ever done that, but we're supposed to. On the other hand, Tennessee doesn't have an income tax on normal income. We do have an income tax on dividends that we receive, but not on regular income.
One way or another, the government is going to extract their pound of flesh from its citizens.
