Not all people want more and more government services. The only ones who do are those who don't contribute much in tax dollars. I.e. they get services they don't pay for. I think government should only be doing things we can't do for ourselves, like build highways and bridges, defend our borders. Things like buying food or paying for education should be an individual's responsibility. I also think that tax money should be spent as close to the origination of it as possible. There is an attempt at local levels to grab as much federal money as possible. Need $1 million to build a bridge? Get $500k in fed money! Then they talk like that's "free money" and the bridge is only costing you $500k when pushing their projects. It's lost on them that it's still YOUR money, just coming out of a bigger pot.
I don't think a small township in the backwoods should be getting fed money to build a bridge that only a dozen or so local residents will ever use. Same reason why I don't care about some drainage project in Washington State if I live in Michigan. Let local governments fund those and reduce our national taxes accordingly.
Another thing that gripes me is when politicians talk about "giving" people (or corporations) a tax break, like it's a gift. Only in America can "taking less" of your money be considering "giving" you something. It's almost like the politicians believe that ALL of your money is theirs and you should feel blessed when they say they're going to take less of it.

Minus two kids, we traveled light with only the youngest in tow. As long as a pool was at the end of our destination she was easy to please unlike the other two who have a multitude of requirements to travel with mom and dad. Amana Colonies served as a respite where we ate a family style lunch that sustained us with more food than could reasonably fit into our ample physiques. The show at Ankeny
