Yes. Its been a few years back. I was working in the coastal hay field on my 48 JD A. Tractor started making a nasty thunking sound and quit moving. Thought the tranny had given it up. Shifted gears and same nasty noise and no movement. Started looking around and the left wheel had worked off. By God's grace, the axle had caught on the 1 inch lip on the inside of the rim just below where the axle goes through. The thunking noise was caused by the splines on the axle grinding on the lip of the rim.
I shut the tractor down and gingerly got off. I walked back to the house and told James what happened. We loaded up jacks, blocks and tools and went back to the hayfield. We were able to get it back on without incident. Whew!
