The body shop may have to wait a long time to get paid from the insurance company. Also the insurance company may prorate the repair so the body shop charges more to get the same as your cash payment.
I have a good friend that is a dentist. He says it takes him up to six months to get paid for dental work from one of the major dental insurance companies. Of coarse the local school district uses that company so he has a fair number of clients that have that coverage. So he can take less for a cash payment without the mountains of paperwork and long payment delays.
