There is one fellow saying you can do it out the back/side and several saying you have to split it. It sounds like you need a special tool to do it without splitting the tractor. I would think it would be a bear to do without splitting the tractor. You have to take the axles off any way. The labor involved in splitting one after that is not that much more. The added benefit of splitting the tractor is you can easily inspect everything else to make sure nothing else is wrong.
