Not sure what you mean by your test, JD.
The standard test is to add water to the empty jar first, then mark the level with a grease pencil. THEN you mix in the gasoline and let the gas and water separate. If the level of the water has INCREASED above the line, you have ethanol in the gas. (The ethanol is separating from the gas and mixing with the water.)
