Dick2 and RRlund: Both of you are trying to run down a pretty good company by implying that they did not contribute to the World War II effort. While I do not agree with all that JD does today they DID help just as much as any other company in WWII!!!!!
Here is what I have been able to find that is directly referring to what they built.

Now I was not born then but I can remember the people that worked at the Dubuque plant during that time talking later about the parts that they made for many different war related products. JD paid normal over time for any "extra" shifts that the workers worked. This was not required or even paid for by the Government contracts for the war materials. Even the Union fellows credited JD with doing this.
You also have to remember that John Deere was not the dominate farm equipment manufacture then, that it is today. IH and MH would have had as big or bigger world market share than JD.
So trying to stir up something by implying JD did not contribute to the war effort is a LOW ball act!!!!!
As for hating JD. Well they have made good equipment over the years. Maybe not the best of everything but it was still good equipment for the most part. The corporate management of JD has been pretty darn good. JD has not been in dire financial shape and has actually bought many companies over the years.
IH, Oliver, MH and many more can't say that about their companies. Due to POOR management they all are no longer around. PERIOD!!!!!
So hate JD all you want. As a company JD has been pretty darn successful!!! Their North American market share supports this.
