I'm not sure what the scam is. If he has a yard full of old stuff he is parting out maybe he will find it for you. Get a couple of references. Helps if it is people you know or can ask on the forums. I have done this many times. Every few years someone here will find out I need something and just send it to me. Usually accompanied with a note saying "if you can use it, send me a few bucks to cover the shipping." Don't be too quick to judge...get references.
