K we have been Shell Rotella user since it came out but Have wore that rebate thing out here lately. We get it on sale a rural king and then the rebate get it down there. Have used it in some things that we bought used and had no idea what they had been using. This will bring out the dogs for sure. About 5 years ago their was a big flood in Nashville. We had a late model dozer with cummins 4bt get underwater. Insurance was paying so we put a new crate engine in the unit. Never put it back on job just kept it around here at the farm and after a year notice the rings had not set or at least if we ran it 2 hrs wound need 2 quarts of oil. Cummins/Dresser gave us another engine wit directions to work it. After 6 weeks it was worse could not stand the blow by and using oil. Cummins paid us to tear it down and sent a rep down. First question he ask was what oil were we using , showed him the rotella 15w/40 . He had us rough the cylinders and install new rings and switch to the Mobil Delvac Diesel oil ran the unit the same way and rings seated and so far 600 hrs and no problem. His comments were the Shell has pollomers that are just too slick to seat the rings. Never heard of that and still use Shell in all our over the road trucks.
