The "GMO" that you refer to is NOT what the debate is about. What you are using as a reference is basically the result of cross pollination and cross breeding of NON GMO plants. The GMO that is being referred to here is the idea of injecting "foreign" DNA into a corn. soybean, or other nucleus and growing the resulting plant.
Just my humble opinion: I have no problem with crossbreeding or hybridization. I may not even have a problem with GMO.... BUT - my fears and doubts are as follows:
1) When they inject DNA from another plant or animal into a nucleus to create a new strain, are they adding or bringing out a desirable trait? And do any other potentially dangerous traits tag along for the ride?
2) Insufficient testing has been done. Perhaps the "new" soybean or corn may have some new and more desirable traits, but is there a potential long term danger? Will the resulting new food be digestible by humans? Could it possibly have side effects that only manifest themselves years into the future?
I seem to recall that years ago, there was a new cooking oil introduced that was supposed to help with weight loss by being indigestible. Supposedly it just passed through our digestive systems without being absorbed into the bloodstream. Apparently, there were side effects and it disappeared quietly into the night.
So, I say, if proper testing is done, and GMO foods turn out to not be harmful or have any undesirable side effects, I will "jump on the bandwagon" so to speak and embrace them as wholesome food. Until then, I will exercise my right to choice and mostly avoid them.
P. S. I hope this is not too far out of line from your original request, John.

Today's Featured Article - Listening to Your Tractor - by Curtis Von Fange. Years ago there was a TV show about a talking car. Unless you are from another planet, physically or otherwise, I don’t think our internal combustion buddies will talk and tell us their problems. But, on the other hand, there is a secret language that our mechanical companions readily do speak. It is an interesting form of communication that involves all the senses of the listener. In this series we are going to investigate and learn the basic rudimentary skills of understanding this lingo.
