English auto industry post WW2 was in bit of economic bind-- old tooling part shelved 1939 to 1946 put back in service for another year- or 10- while new models designed. Ford popular kept the flathead engine to 1960 or so, had OHV Pinto engine at same time overlap for couple years. Austin had a new sedan early 1950s and one of its main market competitors in sales was the old prewar design kept in production at 'old' plant. Trucks similar situation- new engine maybe but old body still sells- and as long as both lines make a profit, keep selling them. Drop your 'old' design, make all 'new' design and some of your customers may go to a competitors 'old' design and you lose some profit. Find a buyer in old colony for the tooling and then sell it off, use new tooling, let 'colonials' make the old design. India gets Enfield motorcycle tooling and makes them old style for many years- 'Bullet' model single cylinder, separate tranny, kick start sells domesticly and some export- has been 'Gray Market in EU,UK, and some in US recently. Cuban American classic may come back home soon. RN.
