Bob, You didn't say where you are located, so my comments will be pretty general. However, I'll go ahead and assume you are located in an area where you are receiving less than 20inches of average annual rainfall. Once cheatgrass gets established among native grasses, it is tough to deal with. My best advice would be to graze it fairly heavily before it sets seed (about now in my area here in Utah), but be sure to remove your grazing animals before the native grasses go into the boot stage. Then let the natives set seed and mature without any more grazing that year. Do this for several years and you should see a reduction in cheatgrass and a thickening of the stand of natives. This all assumes that you have other places to go with your animals in summer. Where are you located, by the way? Good luck.
