You'd think that heading into my fifth decade on the planet, I'd know better. Yes, the deal was unclear from the start. My bad there.
I just deleted a rather compelling and rich description of this couple that may or may not have tempered your disgust for my bartering skills or lack thereof. Suffice it to say, a case study in their own right, but this IS a public forum.
Fortunately, for the minuscule sliver of manhood my wife allows me to retain, I actually had enough cash on me that day to pay her asking price. Saved my back the trouble of unloading and stacking that hay by myself at their barn. I rationalize that the hay probably was worth $4 during the coldest Winter months, even in the face of a couple thousand bales of fresh hay waiting in my fields. It is likely that I may run short on hay this year, I lost three fields I was renting, but have reduced herd size to make up for that, I hope.
In the end, the most likely result will be a complete termination of any business between us of a farm nature.
