I agree with others - you just bought yourself a little education.
But don't feel bad - I did it at 7.80 a bale!
A friend bought some hay delivered with a tractor trailer - he took all his, but that left 50 bales in the trailer, of which was what the woman called the "cheaper first cutting".
I told her I'd take it all assuming the price "wasn't too crazy".
(to which the woman never replied... She just made some jokes - I SHOULD have known right there...)
My offer was more to help her out than anything else, I could unload it into his barn, and let her go home with an empty trailer. I'd use the hay, but I didn't really NEED it.
We got it all stacked when I finally heard the price: "ok, that's 7.80 a bale, times 50 ... I almost choked.
I'd normally pay 150 for that, was EXPECTING to get robbed for about 250 - but paid almost 400 instead.
I knew instantly that I screwed up.
I also knew instantly that I'd never make that mistake again. No matter how nice and friendly a person is - business is business - get the price up front.
Not a whole heck of a lot of leverage for negotiation once you're holding the hay.

I’ve noticed a few questions in the comment section that could pertain to hydraulic cylinders so I thought we could take a short look at this real workhorse of the circuit. Cylinders are the reason for the hydraulic circuit. They take the fluid power delivered from the pump and magically change it into mechanical power. There are many types of cylinders that one might run across on a farm scenario. Each one could take a chapter in
