I'm assuming by now you are working off a diagram for that particular car. Is there anything on the engine side of the firewall, duct work for fresh air intake? I've had mice build nests in a completely different car on the engine side of the firewall. I forget if they could access the interior straight through, but there was a problem with air flow. I did change the cabin air filter too. Eventually, one mouse literally died in the nest and the odor was rapidly becoming unbearable. I opened the hood and took off the cowling near the windshield or peeled it up enough by unfastening enough of it to do so, and it revealed the problem. I removed the nest intact, dead mouse in the nest, cleaned all of the duct work, both inside the cabin and out. Installed a piece of hardware cloth to prevent access again, and that was all it took, been years now, darned mice can be a real pain. More times than not, its a mouse nest around here. DM model Mack I used to drive, had the heater console stuffed full of paper toweling, as I'd leave a roll inside to clean with, so I could keep the cab neat and orderly at all times. Hardly any heat or air, it was in the shop, so the mechanic cleaned it out and showed me. I suspected it, so mentioned same when it went in for repairs, and was about to take it apart when something else more urgent needed repair on this truck.
