The alternator big stud terminal should be connected to the amp meter load side using 10 gauge wire. if it has no amp meter, the 10 gauge should go to the starter cable from the battery. ( a 40 amp fuse link or power fuse in that spot is desirable. If when hooked up and not running, key off, a test light from the bat positive to the #1 terminal spade should light up. if it does not, the alternator might be a "one wire" conversion alt, and not a standard 3 wire. If it does light, the light you installed should also light in those conditions. When running, the test light should go out, and from that point the alt should charge till it is shut off. You cannot use a diode type lamp for a bulb, it needs to be a marker light type with a filament. A diode lamp with a 10 ohm resistor across the leads will also work, as will a real diode of 3 amps or more capacity placed to prevent flow toward the ignition. Jim
