Not familiar with Deutz, but shouldn't be too hard to determine the voltage. It will either be a straight 12v, or 24v, OR a "12v run, 24v start" system.
If it is a straight 12v or 24v, the battery wiring will be simple, positive cable, ground cable, a double ended cable connecting the batteries. You will be able to find the voltage on some accessory, like a tag on the alternator, starter, a lamp, instrument, etc.
If the voltage is 12v, it could have had 2 6v batteries series together, 2 12v batteries parallel, or one big 12v battery.
If it is 24v, it would have had 2 12v batteries in series.
If it is a "12v run, 24v start" system, the cable connections to the batteries will be a complex assortment of cables going to relays, solenoids, parts unknown... A real nightmare to sort out! If it is this type system, don't guess! Find a wiring diagram or someone who knows for sure how it is wired.

But, on the other hand, there is a secret language that our mechanical companions readily do speak. It is an interesting form of communication that involves all the senses of the listener. In this series we are going to investigate and learn the basic rudimentary skills of understanding this lingo.
