Over here "tedding" is the word used to describe lifting the cut grass up and shaking the swath out to allow air to help drying the grass.
The early ones were horse drawn, a horizontal bar with fingers lifted the grass up and over, underneath a tin cover. Then PTO driven versions were made up to the late 70's when the rotary versions came over from Europe and were more efficient at spreading and teasing out lumps.
The Bamford Wuffler was the best known, many other companies made their own versions in single & double row sizes. You could adjust the opening width of the rear doors to have narrower or full width spread
