I was the one that just did one, too. I can't recall whether yours is intake or exhaust.
One is a washer about the size of a quarter with a slot in it. Move it off center and it comes loose. The other is a pain. After compressing the spring (and keeping the valve from lifting at the same time) you move a retainer washer and there is a split shell retainer. The two halves fall apart. It is easy to take out. A bear to put in. My advice is take a paper towel and shove it in the oil return hole (if it is a horizontal shaft engine). You don't want one of those retainer halves falling down there. And they will, trust me. Thank the Lord for long reach magnets.
I got mine all done in about an hour after making a compressor tool. I took a large washer and cut a slot in it so that it would go down around the valve stem. I then welded that washer to a tie rod separating fork (I call them pickle forks). That new tool made it much easier.

They were horrified (we lived by the railroad), my mother thought the worst: "He’s been run over by a train, he’s gone forever!" Where did they find me? Perched up on the seat of the tractor. I’d probably plowed about 3000 acres (in my head anyway) by the time they found me. This is where my love for tractors started and has only gotten worse in my tender 50 yrs on this “green planet”. I’m par
