I believe the mosquito's saliva is the culprit, if you are allergic to it, some people don't seem to be. That does sound like a familiar remedy for a bee sting. When I was a kid, the farm being close to other houses and neighbors, one of which was a long time family friend, myself and their oldest son, would play on the old "RUSTY" D7 caterpillar, and if it sat, every summer it was loaded with wasps, we'd get stung every time. His mother had these green capsule things, and I thought there was an ammonia smell to them. We'd get stung so many times, she'd run out of them ! One time we escaped without getting stung and I said "you saved my life" LOL, we still joke about it today 40 some odd years later !
