I had a male 15 inch beagle that had a confrontation with a ground hog. At first, they were yelling and posturing to each other. The beagle had the ground hog cornered, and the ground hog was snapping, hissing, and growling. After they were nose to nose for about 20 minutes - I came out to see what the commotion was - the ground hog snapped at the dog and nipped him on the ear. Something snapped in that dog, and he went after that ground hog, got him by the back just behind the neck, and shook it to death. He walked around the yard for a couple of days carrying that dead ground hog. Finally about the third day, I got it away from him and disposed of it.
