If you sign on dotted line you still have a number of days( think 7 days ) to file a claim for concealed damage. The commerical freight line I drove for would have us call them on damages and they told us to have it signed with maybe damage and sometimes we opened carton to check and other time we took it back to our terminal and they would inspect it. When we picked up freight our company had us mark on bill of laden any marks, damage or crushed cartons and that we were not liable for damages. That way the party receiving the freight had to fill cliam with shipper for any damages. You can't open a package without signing or driver gets ok from freight line to open.
