Paul I see both sides of it. I agree with some of it and do not agree with some of it.
So lets talk shipping company ONLY.

Its a dog eat dog world out there so companies are going to cut cost everywhere they can.
One hidden place cost can be cut is in insurance.
It is all spelled out in the tariff laws and people that ship everyday know them.
Some carry the insurance some do not.

The internet has become our worse enemy.
Before the internet we dealt we the public a little bit but now we deal with them a lot.
We are here to haul freight not be your friend.
When we pick up something we do not open the box and check it; so you will not be allowed to do so.

I'll tell you a personal story.
I ordered a home A/C unit over the internet.
Got it for a real good price.
When it got here it was well wrapped and there was no visible damage.
Opened it up and it was dented.
Not unusable but dented and coil fins bent.
The shipper blamed the carrier and the carrier blamed the shipper.
Since I am in the business I knew what happened.
The shipper was able to sell so cheep because he was shipping scratch and dent items.
He was buying all the scratch and dent items from the factory and selling them as new.

So as a carrier we have to protect our selves from fraud.
On the other hand if we damage it.
The box is crushed; there is a fork lift hole threw it.
We will gladly pay the claim and give you $65 for your $1200 TV and then turn around and sell your TV at the scrap item auction.

I say this not to put down on the carrier; shipper; or customer.
I say it to tell you how the system (fine print) works.
So the next time you consider ordering that item off the internet to save $20 and have it delivered to your house think about this first.

If you guys want to talk about how that $20 saved turns into $100 lost because our quoted service is tail gate to tail gate we can do that also.

Today's Featured Article - 12-Volt Conversions for 4-Cylinder Ford 2000 & 4000 Tractors - by Tommy Duvall. After two summers of having to park my old 1964 model 4000 gas 4 cyl. on a hill just in case the 6 volt system, for whatever reason, would not crank her, I decided to try the 12 volt conversion. After some research of convert or not, I decided to go ahead, the main reason being that this tractor was a working tractor, not a show tractor (yet). I did keep everything I replaced for the day I do want to restore her to showroom condition. ... [Read Article]
