OK what a lot of us older guys miss is that they no longer allow officers and NCO's to berate subordinates in public. It has been considered unprofessional for a long time.
What it sounds like to me is she had visions of her being the first female commanding general for a Marine Division and thought that path could be achieved by being harder on subordinates than her male counterparts. It is telling that there were complains filed that lead to an investigation. Anyone who has been involved with trainees regardless of branch in the last 30 years can tell you that you have to be very careful about your conduct.
