SJ and SL is for gasoline motors.
For a diesel motor you need something that starts with a C. CJ-4; CI-4; CH-4 There are many other C ratings from the past but all are obsolete now.
I usually recommend CI-4 or CH-4 for these old tractors because many people are always messing with the sulfur content of the diesel. If you use the new CJ-4 oil with anything but ULSD (15ppm) you can cause problems.
The viscosity depends on where you live. 10 W-xx oil is good down to about 0°F If it gets below 0°F where you live then you should use a 5 W-xx oil.
