Few snakes in our hay this year, maybe because it has been cooler this spring and they did not need to hide in the tall grass?
We have a hawk family nested in the woods by our pond. Late last Summer, I found one of the adults sitting on a low tree branch while I mowed the fenceline, and was shocked it did not even move when I came near. The next morning, I found the dead bird on the ground under that branch. This Summer, one of the hawks is screaming constantly- I wonder if that is the widow(er) pining for its former mate...
