I sometimes think they sell assortment kits as a way to get rid of all the odd size O-rings that wont fit anything.
Once you use up the six 0-rings in the kit that fit your tractors hydraulic couplers the rest seem to collect dust.
A drawer full of misc new and used O-rings I have collected over the years usually has something to make do.
Without knowing what you are working on its impossible to give you a blanket answer, what will work fine on a garden hose may not provide the same results on for example a cylinder liner.
