Like Ultradog, I can count on one hand the number of sodas I have in a year, and it's been that way for 5 decades. I might indulge in 3 or 4 bottles of local wine a year, but forget the beer or booze. Last regular check-up was about a decade ago, and my last cholesterol check came back at 99, after having a ham and cheese omelet made with 8 eggs plus toast with real butter for breakfast. Last BP check was while waiting at a pharmacy for an RX for an abscessed tooth. It was 170/68, pulse of 62 (after jogging in from the parking lot).
A good friend, grew up on a farm, slugged quarts of Mt Dew every day for years (especially during haying season), has been obese and diabetic for over a decade, has already had toes amputated, is losing eyesight due to the diabetes, and is several years younger than I am.
Invariably, the most obese, power cart riding people I see at the local grocery, have their carts loaded with soda, and one recently, poptarts. Ya can't tell me there isn't a connection.
