If there is an answer to the question,'Who built it and how did it get there? In the middle of nowhere!' that can be found I would start by talking with some of the locals in and around the nearest inhabited town which is SARGENTS, COLORADO 81248 on the West side of MARSHALL PASS (I lived in Gunnison and NEVER heard of Marshall Pass referred to as Sargents Pass) and/or Gunnison,CO (32 mi. West on U.S. 50). This monument is, evidently, located on 'Sargents Mesa' which is located off of the Marshall Pass road which is actually the old railroad grade from the West side of Marshall Pass at Sargents to the East side at Poncha Springs. Ltc Beckley, dying of cancer, got permission from the parks service to build this monument. He then asked 10th Special Forces Group if they would be willing to take on the task of building the monument. ODA. ( A team ) 056 volunteered for that honor. They spent almost 2 weeks completing the task. Ltc Beckly did receive news of its completion as well as pictures prior to his death. The monument itself is meant to be private.
