This is just one small example of today's lazy and dumb. When I was young guy it seemed that everyone wanted to be seen as smart and knowledgeable. These days not so much. For example you ask how long will something take. The most likely answer is "I have no idea." You ask "two weeks?" They reply "Oh no! only about an hour!" The key to it is you have to include and emphasize APPROXIMATELY, in your question. Giving you a thoughtful answer requires more effort than they think that they are paid to expend, so they will decline to answer unless you reduce the ante and thus the effort by allowing them plenty of leeway. If you had asked "$500.00?" He would perhaps have laughed and said "no probably around $75.00 because it is both heavy and bulky". People often assume that because they can't give an exact answer, that what they DO know is of no help to you, while just a little questioning can get them to part with a little knowledge.
