: I lost my job today. It's the first time in 35 years (since I was 16 years old) that I'm not employed. : kenora1@aol.com Sorry to hear about your job. I hope they at least had the decency to give you a few weeks notice, but it doesn't sound like they did. In my line of work, Software Engineering, there is no such thing as permanent employment. I do mostly contract work right now, but even the full time jobs tend to only last a few years at best. This is due to the fact that programmers, like carpenters, aren't needed once the house is built. When that happens, its time to move on to another house. I have gotten so disgusted with full time direct work that at this point in time, I routinely turn down full time direct jobs. For me contract work is the best. You didn't say what kind of work you are in, but the best advice is to keep an open mind and understand that your new job isn't going to be *exactly* like your old one. This way, if you are confronted with an opportunity, you will be less likely to mistake it for a problem.
