Bill, I can't really answer for sure, but I can tell you a short story. Back about five years ago, I was given an old 14T baler that belonged to my cousin. It hadn't been run in about thirty years, because I have been farming the place. It took about a half a day of cleaning hickory nuts out of it, and replacing 3 broken springs plus a few cans of WD40 and more than a few shots of grease before I turned it over.It still had some alfalfa in the chamber, and I had to put a wheel and tire on the pickup side. It was in a low shed, and covered by some plastic well pipe and a few old folded tarps and feed bags. When we did start running it, I started feeding straw into it, and just kept feeding the stuff coming out of it back into it. I have tons of 20,00 round bale twine, but got rid of my big square baler back in the late 80's, so I didn't have any sisal. There was almost a full load of sisal in the old girl that Jim had left in it, like the hay. After tripping the knotters a few times, she started stripping and we started to tighten the chamber tension. We took it to the field later and baled several hundred bales the next day and only broke 2 or 3. The twine was at least 25 years old! I switched to the 7,000 plastic later, and it probably busts more bales with it than that old sisal. But if it's kept dry and covered, it will last a long time......
