Your thinking is correct though in that as the oil gets hot the aromatics (gasoline) left in it will basically boil off. Since you've done the flushing I think you are better than 90% clean. If you can leave the cap off and cover the opening with dense cloth like a diaper or something and run it you will be able to accomplish what you're talking about.
