I was at Hahn Air Base and we sent birds (F-16's) to Morocco in case he wanted to make a fight out of it.
I can understand about the times. We had our officer club bombed and they caught a Red Army Faction guy on base and back tracked his movements and found a fire ext bomb in the base theater set to go off during the Sat Matinee when all the kids would have been there.
Could not tell you how many times there were drive by shootings that hit the barracks that I lived in and I was on the 3rd floor corner next to the road. Heard bullets hit the walls many times. No one ever hurt that I know of though.
Had one buddy almost beat to death at October Fest and another drowned in the Mosul River.
Had to keep your wits about you and know what was going on around you for sure. Took me years to get out of that hyper vigilant mode.
