Don, Yes the beech is dieing here also. Some trees are only 4-6" on the stump. The Ash however seams to be makeing a bit of a recovery. About a week ago, I noticed a lot of the sugar maple's leaves are turning brown. Not coloring up, but whole trees dieing. For the last 3 years whe have had hords of small millers, about the size of a nickel that eat wholes in all the leaves, and I mean all the leaves in the lower and upper canopy. Contacted Cornell U, and they identified the critters, but said that their damage wouldn't hurt the trees, but it has been really dry here since early July. The damaged trees are not handling this stress well. They said that arial spraying in spring was the only way to control them. Loren
