"Smit" - thanks again for your reply ... I DO APPRECIATE IT !! ... If I said nothing was happening, then I mis-spoke (I don't want to say I lied since my intent is to NEVER deceive). In fact, when my buddy first came to me, NOTHING AT ALL was happening ... the lift would not go up & down at all - even with NO WEIGHT on it. So I called a Deere technician to come & diagnose it for me (seemed like a reasonable approach), and he adjusted a little screw that sits top dead center of what I believe he called a "stepping motor" - - and THEN the lift would go up & down. It was only later that we found it would NOT pick up any weight. - - - NOW the lift WILL go up & down .... it just won't pick up any weight. One of my biggest fears is that the problem MAY be in the HCU (hydraulic control unit). Thanks to one who replied to my original post, I know that the HCU costs almost 1200$$$; and Lord knows - we can't stand THAT. As someone suggested, it would be a good idea to put a gauge on the hydraulic line & see how much force the pump is generating ... just haven't done that yet. I wonder: Could John Deere possibly check that HCU for me ->> OFF the tractor?? I feel pretty sure that IF I got a new one for diagnostic purposes - and it turned out the old one is good - they would NOT let me return the new HCU. Just speculating .... Thanks again.
