I talked it over with my son in law. We decided to replace the tank with one just like the old one since he had already bought the new tank; and we really did not want to pull the pump out of the well and remove the ball valve down in the well.
We removed the old tank. I spread and leveled 3 bags of concrete in a 4 foot by 4 foot area; and then put down 4 inch square concrete pavers. Installed the new tank using the old float and check valve. It seems to be working fine as is but I plan to go back in a few weeks and install a new check valve and float. We will then build a house to keep the weather off the tank. Since the pump is supposedly less than a year old this will give him a totally new system.
Seems like a pretty good system that you do not have to worry about rubber bladder busting.
