I did it a couple of years ago on my 434. Some on this site bagged my idea, others were very helpful. I used a ram type power steering kit for a Fordson Major, and modified mountings and the link to the pitman arm. My steering box was very worn, but i made up a new peg for and the power steering takes all the load off the steering box. All the box does now really is to trip the link on the ram. Old design, but a very simple and effective way. I have a loader on the tractor and the steering feels the same with or without it fitted. OK, for the power, I used the original pump. I thought about upgrading it, but tried first and found it is ok. But you WILL need a hydraulic priority valve. I used an adjustable one as the steering doesn't need a lot of flow compared to the rest of the system. I also had to fit a relief valve as the steering only uses around 1000psi, the system produces around 2000. The steering is terrific, and you hardly notice the difference with the loader. There is no known history regarding its origins or what service it had done, but the following work was undertaken alone to bring it up to show standard. From the engine number, it was found that this Major was produced late 1946. It was almost complete but had various parts that would definitely need replacing.
