Fatjay said: (quoted from post at 12:40:20 09/24/15) $47 sounds like a lot for verizon landline. I have their package deal and the landline is $20/mo, plus $30 for tv, and $80 for internet. Verizon's landline is not a copper line like days in the past, it's now a voip system. That means if the internet or power goes out, the phone goes out. True landlines are available in some areas apparently, but not in mine.
Non-Voip copper landlines are still available in lots of places. Our village charges about $35 for the landline, $50 for the cheapest Internet (that only works 8 miles from town, so I can't get it), and they don't offer tv. They also only offer dialup for existing dialup customers, which that never worked good out here anyway with all the static and disconnects, but anyone that wants real Internet out here has to pay over $50 either cellular or satellite, and cellular service doesn't work much farther out than I am.
They are "wiring" many populated states with upgraded lines, like PA, but many of us aren't going to get anything for years if ever, by land anyway.
