I live out in the country. We have owned the place for about 15 years and have had a few power outages lasting 4 to 6 hours. Wife thought that maybe we should get a back up generator. Started reading on how large of one I would need to run the well, furnace, fridge, freezer, etc. Seemed like 6 to 7 kw would be the minimum. The cheap ones of those go for $500 to $600. Found a 15KW Onan PTO generator on Craigslist for $700 and bought that. I run it from my Case VAC which means I can only run it at 10KW or so but that is plenty to run everything in the house. Works great. Very happy with it. It is also very handy to run my welder when I am to far from my welder plug in. I really like not having small gas engine that won't start when I need it. The tractor gets plenty of use so the gas stays fresh.

I was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. Not a place one would associate with farms or farm machinery. I credit my parents for instilling a lot of good values, a respect for learning, a knowledge of various skills and a little knowledge of farming in me, amo
