You could get fairly close if you were careful, and they've got some nice pictures caught while his wings were beating. A buddy has a camp in the Adirondacks where they've got a few Spruce Grouse--slightly smaller than the Ruffled Grouse, and sometimes called the Fool Hen, as you can walk right up to them. Not many of them left in NY, and we purposely don't hunt ruffled grouse in that vicinity to avoid accidentally shooting the few that are there, but they're neat to see.

There is no known history regarding its origins or what service it had done, but the following work was undertaken alone to bring it up to show standard.
