A 53 Fordson will be a straight Major with the 220 cid Dagenham diesel engine. This YT site has I&T manuals available, it will be a combined manual for the Fordson Major Diesel (FMD) Fordson Power Major (FPM) and Fordson Super Major (FSM). I think you will, as a novice, find the I&T manuals detailed enough for most if not all of your mechanical information. Your model will be the FMD, you will find the serial number stamped on the transmission/engine housing flange just above the starter on the left side of the engine. You may have to wire brush this flange and clean it well to read the vertically stamped serial number which is in old english script and can sometimes be difficult to read. Good luck on the Major!
: I have just purchased a 1953 Fordson Major Diesel and I am looking for the service and parts manual. I don't seem to have a model number so I am unsure what to ask for when ordering one. I am brand new to the world of tractors so can anyone help me out.
