On the front- the 2 outside lights are called clearance or markers, placed as close to the side as possible & as high as possible. show widest point.
the 3 in the center are called ID lights, indicate that the vehicle is 80 or more inches wide. note- if the cab is 48 inches wide or less, only 1 required at the center.
on the front of box or trailer, corner markers to be as high as possible. In the case of containers, the container is not part of the vehicle, light required at corner of chassis.
on the side- markers to show box or trailer length. at the front as high as possible. side center line- if the box or trailer is 30 feet or longer, a light located at the mid point of length. may be mounted top or bottom. at the rear mounted as low as possible.
across the rear- corner markers & ID 3 bar mounted as high as possible. also 2 tail lights, 2 brake lights, & turn signals
colors- lights at or near the rear must be red. rear turn signals may be amber if seperate from brake/tail lights, backup lights white. all other lights must be clear, white, or amber. other colors such as blue, green etc are not legal.
additional lights are optional, however all lights that are in place must be working.
