If it's an Onan with points it should be similar to the B48G Onan in my 982 Cub Cadet. BTW, the engine is the very worst part of that tractor! Points are top front mounted on pto end of the engine and operate off the camshaft, but the coil sends a spark to both plugs which fire every revolution. I've been fighting bad OEM points & condenser problems with my Onan for 10-12 years and I've only owned it 15 years. Condensors are imported and only last 125-150 hours and cost $35-$40 thru Cummins who owns the Onan engine brand now. New points are about the same price, and are cheap imported junk too. They use a screw to adjust point gap similar to the old Delco points GM used back in the 60's & 70's. Points are run by a short pushrod held in a diecast plate screwed to the block. It is possible that screw has worked loose and let point gap close which would cause engine not to run. Points can also get covered with engine oil vapor which also causes engine not to run. Had both things happen and engine runs O-K then dies instantly. No distributor or distributor cap on the engine.
I keep telling people I'm going to replace that POS Onan with a Deutz air cooled diesel and they think I'm kidding! I won't get into what a poorly engineered mess the governor is on this vintage and the next newer Performer series of Onan engines. Probably all the older engines too.
