I think you will be happy with the 30 ton and get a cradle to catch the piece of wood on other side of splitter. Before I bought my 35 ton I worked with several guys that had 22 and 27 ton splitters and saw a few knots that they had trouble splitting or could not split. When I bought mine it was about $ 400.00 more than a 28 ton and is a hell of a lot better built splitter than the 28 ton. The cradle that I got was from a guy on Ebay out in Montana ( still sells them but only builds so many each year) and it can be taken on and off in just a minute if needed.
