i put a beehive in at the farm this year. corn and soybeans are our crops. also have a good selection of fruit trees. the last couple years there have been very few honey bees and a huge drop in bumblebees. fruit production was way off.this spring, i did not see one honey bee during the blossom stage, few bumble bees and a few odd bugs on the trees. so in went the hive. there are a lot of factors causing colony collapse, insecticides being one, but also varroa mites (an invasive mite from over seas) a parasite wasp (again invasive) foulbrood, a fungus that attacks the hive, to name a few. varroa mites also attack bumble bees. we do use herbicides and insecticides on the crops, so i will see what happens next year. i am on the fence on this, i dont know what the answer is. its a tough call when you get spider mites, corn borers, corn root worm, soy bean aphids, ect in your crops and stand to lose an entire crop. heres a couple pics of my bees
