: : : Re: Crank. I was pulling the cylinders out of an H and I broke a main cap on the crank. What are the chances of the crank being bent or damaged somehow. Options from here. Thank You. : as with any moder you should have it checked by a moter machinest .if you have it that far down it would be a good idea to turn it and replace the berings.you dont want to take a chance on having to do it again. if you can a small moter rebuilding shop local they should beable to do the work for a small price if you assimble it youself because he will give no worinty. check pistons and all .if you take you time and spend a little more money your H will last another geration maybe more .do head also. these H's run for ever anyway. why did you take it down ? what year ? how long owned ? The only way to properly fix an engine that has a broken main bearing cap is to replace the cap with a new or used cap and have the engine "line bored" by a engine-building machine shop. The main bearings must be straight to within .0005 inch. The line boring procedure consists of grinding a few thousandths off each cap and then boring the holes out round again. Hope this helps.
