The teeth on the pinion 1855 (spiral gear teeth), are broken off. I checked the hardness of the material an it is around 60 to 62 HRC, which is extremely hard. I thought about annealing this gear to soften and then build up the broken teeth with TIG rod. After that, try to have a local gear shop machine the teeth back to or close to their original shape. I could then quench and temper or normalize, depending upon the material, to get the hardness back. My biggest concern with this repair approach is that the repaired teeth may chip in the future and cause more problems. Any thoughts? I am going to continue to try and find replacement parts as this would be the ideal solution.
