I've been involved with several broken cranks. Ranging from 5 HP >9000 HP. Cranks weighing from 2 LBS to 20 + TONS. Every time I installed (or was part of a team)a crank I always use PRUSSIAN BLUEING to check for proper contact of the Crank Journal with the bearing material or lack of contact. Also,if the block was bored to have CRUSH (the bearing shells sit proud of the bearing cap split line and or CAP...99.999% of todays ENGINES)) this was something I would also check. I may be over emphasizing the importance of checking to see if the BLOCK requires LINE BORE......it's your MONEY so spend as you see fit
